A Journey of Compassion, Culture, and Change

My path into counselling was shaped by personal experiences of loss and grief, which deepened my understanding of mental health through the lens of culture and belief. I learned how cultural norms can silence emotional expression and how stigma, especially for women, often prevents people from seeking support. These experiences showed me the importance of culturally aware, compassionate care.

Through my own grief, I discovered resilience, hidden strengths, and renewed purpose. What I needed most during those times was someone who could truly listen without judgement or assumptions. While I received support, I often felt a lack of cultural sensitivity that fully recognised the context I came from. This gap inspired my commitment to offer a safe, culturally competent space where individuals can be heard, understood, and empowered.

As my curiosity about human behaviour grew, so did my dedication to supporting others through their silent struggles. I returned to education later in life, challenging expectations and embracing lifelong learning. Over the past decade, I have completed formal training in Counselling, leadership, and specialist areas to ensure my practice is ethical, professional, and effective.

Today, I have created the space I once needed: AL-FALAQ Counselling, a safe, culturally sensitive and non-judgemental environment for those navigating grief, trauma, and life transitions. My mission is to make healing accessible, dismantle stigma, and support individuals from all backgrounds, with dedicated support for racially marginalised communities.

At AL-FALAQ, culture and mental health are embraced together , grounded in respect, compassion, and understanding.
